FNF VSMirukumunari: Face the Japanese Vocaloid-Style Psych Engine Mod Boss Across 3 Versions of Charts

FNF VSMirukumunari is a Japanese-built Friday Night Funkin' mod built on the Psych Engine, originally released on Game Jams and updated through three full versions before reaching itch.io. The opponent, Mirukumunari (Miru for short), is an original character designed in that crisp Saturday-morning anime style that Psych Engine ports tend to favor. He sings, he poses, he gets progressively more unhinged as the songs ramp up, and the chart patterns hit that sweet spot between rhythm-game accessibility and chart-credible difficulty. What separates Mirukumunari from the average FNF mod is the music. The tracks were composed specifically for this mod and lean hard into electronic Vocaloid-style production, which is a noticeable step up from the typical four-chord FNF parody song. Each version added new songs with new mechanics — version 1.5 added an additional track, version 2.0 fixed chart bugs and improved opponent animations, version 2.5 brought a readable in-game stat display so you can actually tell how well you're comboing, and version 3.0 added new songs on top of everything that came before. The original itch.io page sits at just under 600 MB of downloadable Windows content if you grab the full version, but the HTML5 port on FNFMODS strips that down to the playable chart engine and lets you run the full FNF VSMirukumunari experience straight from your browser. There's no install, no zip extraction, no Windows-only exe blocking you out — just click Play, wait for the Psych Engine loading screen, and you're fighting Mirukumunari in under 30 seconds.

Did You Know?

Mirukumunari was originally developed for a community jam called 'cuaharsn s Jam' on itch.io, and the developer (satoo333) iterated through three full versions with public update logs before finalizing the v3 release — a rare level of version discipline in the FNF modding scene, where most mods ship once and disappear.

Key Features

Psych Engine Smoothness: Built on the same Psych Engine foundation as other popular FNF character mods, the charts scroll cleanly, the audio sync is tight, and the UI overlays (health bar, score, accuracy) are legible even on smaller windows.
Original Mirukumunari Character: Miru is an original Japanese-designed opponent with distinct idle poses, expressive mouth sprites, and a signature look that's consistent across all three versions of the mod.
Three Full Versions of Content: The v3 release includes every track and chart from v1, v1.5, v2, v2.5, and v3 — you get the complete evolution of the mod, not a stripped-down demo.
Readable Stat Display: Version 2.5 introduced a clean in-game stat readout so you can see your accuracy, combo, and misses without alt-tabbing to figure out how you did.
Original Vocaloid-Style Soundtrack: The mod's tracks were composed from scratch specifically for Mirukumunari and lean into electronic pop production rather than recycled FNF parody themes.

Why You'll Love It

If you're a fan of pick-up-and-play games that respect your time, FNF VSMirukumunari is tailor-made for you. It's perfect for those moments when you want quick, satisfying fun without a steep learning curve — offering a refreshing blend of simplicity and addictive gameplay. The easy-to-learn controls and instant action ensure you're always just one click away from a great time.

How to Play FNF VSMirukumunari

FNF VSMirukumunari uses the standard Psych Engine control scheme so if you've played any Psych Engine mod before you'll feel at home immediately. Four directional inputs — left, down, up, and right — correspond to the four columns of the note highway, and matching the arrow with the moment the note crosses the receptor at the top of the column is what scores a hit. You can play with either the arrow keys or the WASD keys, whichever feels more natural on your keyboard. Press Enter to confirm menu selections on the title screen and Escape to pause mid-song if you need a breather. When the Boyfriend vs Mirukumunari icon shows up, hit Enter to start your first song. The chart difficulty ramps song by song rather than all at once. Early tracks let you settle in with simple 4th-note patterns and modest stream sections, but later songs in the v3 update throw pattern switches, mini-gimmick rhythms, and the kind of irregular syncopation that keeps your eyes shifting across the highway. Mirukumunari has one signature visual tell — his idle animation switches pose every few bars — and once you start to notice it you'll find that reading the rhythm gets easier. Combo to keep your accuracy bar full, and don't be afraid to retry the harder tracks. Psych Engine gives you generous practice room compared to Kade Engine ports.

Tips & Tricks

1.

Don't skip the title screen — wait for the 'Press Enter to Begin' prompt to fully render before pressing anything, otherwise Psych Engine can desync your first input

2.

Read Mirukumunari's idle animations rather than just staring at the note highway; his pose changes telegraph incoming tempo shifts about a bar before they hit

3.

Use the audio offset if your browser has any latency — Psych Engine boots cleanest in Chrome desktop, and a 0–10ms offset adjustment in your browser's audio settings can make late-hit arrows disappear

4.

Practice the new v3 songs in order. They were designed assuming you've already learned the older chart patterns, so jumping straight to v3 will feel overwhelming for no good reason

Finally a proper browser port of this mod. The Psych Engine charts feel way smoother than the original Windows build, and Mirukumunari's idle animations actually sync up properly. The v3 songs hit hard too — that synth drop on the third track is unreal.

Solid Psych Engine mod with original music that doesn't just recycle the same FNF joke songs. Difficulty ramps nicely across the set. Took me a couple tries on the last v3 track but the practice mode helped me nail it.

Did not expect to like a Vocaloid-style FNF mod this much. Mirukumunari's character design is great and the stat display from v2.5 actually makes it fun to try and grind accuracy. Way better than most of the random KADE ports clogging up the discovery feed lately.
